The Mariners Monday claimed RHP Cody Martin off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, adding him to their 40-man roster. To make room, the club released RHP Logan Kensing. The 26-year-old Martin joined the A’s July 2 in a trade with Atlanta and appeared in four games (two starts), going 0-2 with a 14.00 ERA.

Prior to joining the A’s Sept. 1, Martin went 4-4 with a 5.10 ERA (34 ER, 60.0 IP) in 11 starts with Triple-A Nashville.

Martin was on the Braves’ Opening Day roster and went 2-3 with a 5.40 ERA in 21 relief appearances over two stints with the club. He also went 1-3 with one save, a 2.10 ERA and .198 opponents batting average in seven games, including six starts, with AAA Gwinnett.

Martin was selected by the Braves in the seventh round of the 2011 draft and is 31-29 with a 3.24 ERA in 118 games, including 84 starts, in five minor league seasons.

Kensing, 33, went 2-1 with a 5.87 ERA in 19 relief appearances with Seattle last season. He also appeared in 19 games in his second season with Tacoma, going 2-0 with one save and a 2.23 ERA after signing a minor league player contract with Seattle May 13.
