For the first time since 2012, the Seahawks used their first-round pick to draft a player, taking OT Germain Ifedi from Texas A&M. The Seahawks traded down to the 31st spot, giving up the 26th pick to Denver in exchange for 31 and 94th in the third round.
Below is the scouting report from Pro Football Focus:
Position fit:
Offensive tackle or guard. Played right tackle at Texas A&M
Stat to know:
96.2 pass-blocking efficiency was 76th in FBS
Combine stats:
Height: 6-6
Weight: 324
Arm length: 36 inches
Hand size: 10¾ inches
40-yard dash: 5.27
Broad jump: 9-1
Bench: 24
20-yard shuttle: 4.75
What he does best:
• Body of an NFL tackle. Insanely long arms that can stone defenders in their tracks when he times his punch well. Graded out much higher in pass protection as a sophomore
• Naturally powerful man. Tossed around linebackers when he squared them up
• Will ride defenders all the way to the ground on double teams. Buried more than a few defensive tackles on the backside of inside zone
Biggest concern:
• His long arms are doing him no favors at the moment. Lacks any ability to latch on and maintain a block. Hand placement is a mess
• Change of direction is so poor. Was exposed in pass protection this past season where he graded negatively. Had no chance against any sort of quickness
• Plays so hunched over. Leads to his hands flying out too wide and poor balance. Was left waving at linebackers at the second level far too often
Player comparison:
Donovan Smith, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ifedi will have many of the same pass-pro issues as Smith did his rookie season and both could end up at guard
Bottom line:
People will fall in love with his NFL frame, but his technique isn’t close to an NFL level yet. It will take him a handful of years to get to there, if he ever does.

AMAZING – Sheil Kapadia, ESPN, nailed it with his MOCK draft board: “When it got to the Seattle Seahawks’ pick, I had a few options but ultimately went with Texas A&M offensive tackle Germain Ifedi. Here’s a look at the complete board.”

Predicting the top 5 is one thing but the 32nd player??? Wow, he deserves an award.
Hopefully Cable can coach this guy up and he can play this year.
He’s been getting congrats from all of us in the media room here in Renton.
My comment on your column summarizing the Hawks’ pre-draft presser:
“I suspect it’s hard to know for sure whether another team is going to want to move up for the 26th pick, given how deep the draft is and as a result how valuable picks are. It probably depends on if a decent QB is still on the board, and a team behind them still feels exposed in that regard.”
I will now utilized the Amazon.com button up in the corner of the page to shop for a Mel Kiper wig. ;-)
Appears to be a project at tackle, More likely a thumper at guard.
looks like these scouts are a bit grammar-challenged. “Plays so hunched over”, “Change of direction is so poor”. They need your wordcraft Art!
Cable has been very positive in him in his assessment of Ifedi. Liked how he doesn’t back down and thinks he can contribute immediately. Definitely will have an opportunity to play.
Yes we have the best line we have had since being here…Cable said something like that in early September 2015.
Trust me he has potential…He is a big guy. Yet a project. Right now…I would of been happier with Garnett at 26. Without the extra 4th. Please let me eat crow! Say this kid is great.
