The Mariners (48-47) Friday recalled INF Luis Sardiñas from AAA Tacoma to fill the roster spot vacated by pitcher Mike Montgomery, traded to the Chicago Cubs earlier this week. Sardinas was available Wednesday when Seattle began a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.

Sardiñas, 23, has hit .190 with 10 runs, two home runs and five RBIs in 25 games during two stints with the Mariners this season. He has appeared in games at shortstop (14 G, 12 GS), second base (3 G, 1 GS), third base, (3 GS), firs tbase (2 G) and left field (1 GS). With the Rainiers, he was hitting .250 with 17 runs, four doubles and 17 RBIs in 42 games.

RHP James Paxton (4-4, 2.86) will pitch at 4:10 p.m., PT opposite RHP Marco Estrada (5-3, 2.93). Following the Blue Jays, the Mariners will play a pair in Pittsburgh Tuesday and Wednesday and then a three-game series at the Cubs starting Friday.
