The Mariners Saturday recalled RHP Emilio Pagan from AAA Tacoma and, to make room on the 25-man roster, optioned RHP Tyler Cloyd to the Rainiers. Pagan was available to the Mariners Saturday night when they play the second of three games against the Toronto Blue Jays at Safeco Field.
Pagan, 26, is on his third stint with Seattle this season after appearing from May 2-6 and May 22-24. In his most recent appearance, he threw four shutout innings against the Nationals May 23.
Pagan is 1-1 with with two saves in 15 relief appearances with Tacoma. The native of Greenville, SC, was selected by the Mariners in the 10th round of the 2013 draft out of Belmont Abbey College (Belmont, NC).
Cloyd, 30, made one appearance after being selected from Tacoma June 2. He was the winning pitcher in Friday night’s 4-2 victory over the Jays after tossing one shutout inning.
The Mariners (31-31) take on the Blue Jays Saturday at 7:10 p.m. Ariel Miranda (6-2, 3.74) will throw for Seattle opposite Marcus Stroman (6-2, 3.25). The Mariners have won 10 of their past 12, but are 12 games behind Houston in the AL West race.
