The Mariners Monday recalled RHP Andrew Moore from AAA Tacoma and, to make room on the 25-man major league roster, optioned RHP Dan Altavilla back to the Rainiers. Moore was the starting pitcher for Seattle Monday night when the Mariners began a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Safeco Field.

Moore, 23, won his only start with the Mariners this season. The 6-foot, 195-pounder made his MLB debut June 22 vs. Detroit. He earned the win after limiting the Tigers to three runs on six hits while striking out four over seven innings.

Moore was optioned to Tacoma June 23. Overall with the Rainiers, he is 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA. He began the season with AA Arkansas. In three minor league seasons in the Seattle organization, Moore is 17-8 with a 2.58 ERA.

Altavilla, 24, is 1-1 with a 5.46 ERA in 29 relief appearances over two stints. He held opponents scoreless in 19 of his 29 outings.

The Mariners (41-42) will follow the three-game set with Kansas City with four against Oakland to close out the first half.
