The Mariners Tuesday recalled RHP Dan Altavilla from AAA Tacoma and, to make room on the 25-man MLB roster, placed RHP Tony Zych on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow flexor bundle strain. This will mark Altavilla’s fourth stint with Seattle this season following appearances from April 3-21, May 6-10 and May 14-July 3.

Altavilla, 24, has held opponents scoreless in 19 of 29 outings. Over his final four appearances prior to being optioned to Tacoma, he did not give up a run, allowing one hit while striking out three in 3.2 innings.

Altavilla earned his first career MLB win April 6 at Houston, striking out three while giving up one hit in one scoreless inning. Altavilla is 1-0 with six saves in 19 games with Tacoma.

The native of McKeesport, PA, was selected by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of Mercyhurst (PA.) College.

Zych, 26, is 6-3 with one save and a 2.66 ERA in 45 games this season. He held opponents scoreless in 35 of his 45 appearances, and allowed more than one run in only one game.

The Mariners (64-62) are playing the second of three against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday night. LHP Marco Gonzales (0-0, 7.11) was to pitch for Seattle opposite RHP Lucas Sims (1-3, 5.24).

Seattle began play Tuesday one game behind in the race for the American League’s second wild card slot.
