LAS VEGAS – The Washington Huskies were eliminated from the Pac-12 Conference basketball tournament after a stirring quarterfinal game with Oregon on Thursday. Nonetheless, Seattle continued to have an impact on Pac-12 hoops Friday when former Seattle SuperSonics and Oregon State star Gary Payton was named the greatest guard in conference history.
The Huskies were within a point in the late going, but the top-seeded Ducks prevailed 83-77 to end Washington’s Pac-12 tourney upset bid, likely sending Washington to the NIT.
Stanford barely showed up while the Huskies played their most complete game of the season in 91-68 win at Pac-12 hoops tourney. Colorado blows out Cougars, 80-56.
The 17-13 Huskies have a solid chance against 15-14 Stanford in Pac-12 Conference tourney opener in Las Vegas. The -21 Cougars are merely trying to avoid a 17th consecutive loss.

Regulation college basketball games last 40 minutes. It says so right there in the rule book. On Sunday night, however, Oregon State and UCLA decided 20 minutes was more than enough time to decide the Pac-12 Conference tournament championship.
The typical American sports fan regards women’s college basketball as the sporting equivalent of the box of baking soda in the back of your refrigerator. Both serve a purpose, but relatively few people pay much attention to them. In most cities, anyway. Thankfully, Seattle is different. Way different.
