First baseman Justin Smoak went 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks and four RBIs to lead the Mariners to a 10-2 win over the Oakland Athletics Saturday in Cactus League play at Peoria Stadium. The Mariners improved to 8-4-2 in spring training play and are 6-1-1 over the last 8 games.

Smoak walked in his first two plate appearances, had a two-out, two-run single fourth and blasted a two-run homer to left-center field in the sixth. Left fielder Milton Bradley went 2-for-2 with a double and second baseman Dustin Ackley went 1-for-1 with a triple. The Mariners recorded a spring-high seven extra base hits (5 doubles, triple, home run).

Starting pitcher Blake Beavan (1-0) earned the win allowing 1 run on 3 hits in 3.0 innings. Left-hander Luke French recorded 4 strikeouts in 3.0 shutout frames.

NOTES: The Mariners made their first significant roster moves of spring training on Saturday, optioning LHP Mauricio Robles, INF Alex Liddi and OF Carlos Peguero to AAA Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League.

Liddi hit grand slams in back-to-back games earlier in the week.

The Mariners also re-assigned OF Johermyn Chavez to AA Jackson, and pitchers Yusmeiro Petit and James Paxton to the club’s minor league camp.

Saturday’s roster moves leave the Mariners with 58 players in their Major League camp: 38 roster players (1 on 60-day DL) and 20 non-roster invitees.
